IPL 2016: Another Ashwin makes waves
Pune team edged out Royal Challengers Bangalore after fierce bidding for the signature of Aswhin, whose base price was Rs 10 lakh.
Chennai: Yet another Ashwin from the city is all set to make a splash in the IPL this season. M.S. Dhoni’s Rising Pune Supergiants snapped up Tamil Nadu leg-spinner M. Ashwin for a whopping Rs 4.5 crore in the IPL auction in Bengaluru on Saturday.
The Pune team edged out Royal Challengers Bangalore after fierce bidding for the signature of Aswhin, whose base price was Rs 10 lakh.
Ashwin, son of Tamil novelist Era Murugan, caught the eye of Chennai Super Kings skipper M.S. Dhoni and coach Stephen Fleming during a net session in 2015. The 25-year-old said he and his father were glued to the television from the morning with “great expectations.”
“I became nervous when it was announced that the final list was coming up at around 3 pm. I was confident because Fleming had told me at the end of last season that they would have a look at me this year,” Ashwin said.
“I feel great that I would play in the IPL, but Rs 4.5 crore was something I never dreamt of.”
