Cricketer R Ashwin stokes controversy
However, he retracted hours later saying he was referring to a job creation drive to be organised by Ashwin Foundation.
Chennai: Star cricketer R. Ashwin was at the centre of controversy on Monday after he commented about the political situation in the state by tweeting “to all the youngsters in TN, 234 job opportunities to open up shortly.”
However, he retracted hours later saying he was referring to a job creation drive to be organised by Ashwin Foundation.
“To all the youngsters in TN, 234 job opportunities to open up shortly,” the cricketer, who hails from Chennai, posted on his official Twitter handle at 11.04 AM, setting tongues wagging. As his tweet began trending, Mr Ashwin took to the micro-blogging site once again at 1:28 pm to say, “Guys please cool it down, it is a job creation drive. Nothing to do with Politics. #howmuchtwisting,” he tweeted.
The cricketer also followed it up with another tweet, “Ashwin Foundation is happy to support 'We Are Your Voice', excl career fair for differently abled, 26th Feb, Loyola Col contact 9551500061.”
This is not the first time Mr Ashwin is commenting on a political issue. He had saluted the spirit of people of Tamil Nadu when thousands had thronged the Marina Beach to demand conduct of jallikattu. “Scenes of peaceful protest all around TN. Unity, peace and resolve will show our plea in the right light. #peacefulprotests #jallikattu,” he had tweeted.
