Asia Cup Twenty20: Dhoni completes 200 on foreign soil
India limited-over skipper tasted victory in 99 matches overseas.
Mumbai: MS Dhoni not only earned back his long lost sobriquet ‘the finisher’ when he hit the winning runs for India in the Asia Cup final on Sunday, he pocketed another record.
Dhoni, who remained unbeaten on 20 off 6 balls, completed 200 matches as captain on foreign soil.
Captain Cool led Team India for 200 matches in all three formats – ODI, Tests and T20 – on foreign soil.
He led India in 30 Tests, 123 ODIs and 47 T20Is.
Dhoni won 99 out of 200 matches, lost 79 and four were tied, nine were drawn and nine had no result.
He is also the first international skipper to hit 200 sixes. Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting (171 in 376 innings) is second to him.
The India limited-over skipper achieved it in 315 innings.
Dhoni stands in good stead ahead of the ICC World Twenty20 after T20 series victories against Australia and Sri Lanka and then, Asia Cup.
The T20 World Cup made him a household name in 2007 when he led India to victory against Pakistan.
