Virat Kohli hits back at Ian Healy, recalls his infamous Centurion Test antics
Ian Healy had earlier criticised Virat Kohli for sledging current Australia opener Matt Renshaw over the toilet incident in the Pune Test.
Bengaluru: India captain Virat Kohli hit back at former Australia cricketer Ian Healy after India’s 75-run win over Australia in the Bengaluru Test, asking everyone to check a video of the ex-Australia wicketkeeper-batsman’s dismissal in Centurion in 1997.
Healy had earlier criticised Kohli for sledging current Australia opener Matt Renshaw. The India skipper had sledged Renshaw, pointing out the incident in the Pune Test, when the 20-year-old had retire ill, as he had to use the washroom.
However, Healy slammed Kohli for his actions, saying that he had lost respect for the India skipper, who Healy believes has shown a lack of respect for opposition players and the umpires as well.
"I'm losing respect for him. He's not only now continuing his disrespect of the Australian players and umpires, but I think he's putting pressure on his own players now,” Healy had said to Australian radio station SEN.
When asked about Healy’s comments after the end of the Bengaluru Test, in which India completed a remarkable turnaround to win by 75 runs, Kohli curtly replied: “We have got 1.2 billion people in India. One person does not make a different to my life.”
The India captain further went on to slam Healy, pointing out an instance when he had seemingly lost his cool on the umpire and the opposition spectators in a match against South Africa, in 1997.
“Also you should go and search on YouTube when he was given out in Centurion down the leg side,” said the India skipper. “I heard he said something about me not having good behaviour with the umpires.
“I think you all should YouTube that video and I think that says it all. Just see that video and next time you ask me that question.”
We did a little search and found the video that Kohli was referring to, in the press conference.
