CSK video anthems on the rise despite protests
It was followed by Roar for CSK' song in the following year.
With the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League beginning today (April 7) in Mumbai, some political groups and film personalities have demanded that no match should take place in Chennai for the Cauvery Management Board has not yet been set up.
Cricket and cinema are two things that bind Indians and local franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) returning to the T20 league after a two-year hiatus has raised the excitement levels of cricket fans here. Hence, many talented folks including Dhanush’s Wunderbar Film’s release of Kaala Trailer – CSK Version and Premgi Amaran’s CSK Anthem 2.0 have produced a lot of noise on the Internet, chipping away at the strong connections between politics and entertainment and keeping them as distinct as they could be.
While commercial factors obviously have a huge say, people generally don’t want to be a downer as they come to terms with the shaky political and social landscape of Tamil Nadu. The IPL has arrived, and so too have the songs and swagger. Have a look at these!
Rajinikanth’s ‘Kaala’ Trailer, CSK style
Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films have made this trailer and what’s a more iconic match than MS Dhoni and Rajinikanth? Released on YouTube with about 600000+ views and counting, this trailer shows a sneak peek of Dhoni and other CSK players gearing up for cricketing hype of Rajinikanth proportions. Only a few unique people are capable of garnering mass attention of the populace, and while Dhoni might be from Ranchi, his previous CSK associations have permanently made Chennai as his second home. This trailer is a tribute and an acknowledgement towards each other.
CSK Anthem 2.0
Anyone who has followed Premgi Amaren’s film career knows that he’s a simple man who likes the good stuff in life: music, food, booze, and cricket. Here he is, back at it again by lending his voice for Aswin Kandasamy’s 'CSK Anthem 2.0'. You could listen to the song on YouTube and sure, expert opinions that are frankly polarising are the norm of YouTube comments. But hey, who really cares about these comments anyways – just listen to the song and love it or hate it based on your own preferences. What you can be assured of in the song are the elements that make for a CSK hype fest – references to Kabali, Whistling, and a coming together of the rich and the poor.
CSK Gethu Maamu
A song made by independent musician Kumar Narayanan, ‘Gethu Maamu’ follow a topic dear to the composer: the return of captain MSD after an interval of 2 years. Kumar and his team at Saintunes are die-hard fans of Dhoni and CSK. They came out with the Dhoni anthem ‘Dho Dho Dhoni’ in the year 2014, and that was an instant hit. It was followed by ‘Roar for CSK’ song in the following year.
