Watch: Passionate Virat Kohli celebrates his record-breaking ton vs Windies in style
Kohli's ton also helped India seal 5-match ODI series 3-1 against Jason Holder-led West Indies.
Jamaica: Crunch game, series on the line, run-chase and Virat Kohli has delivered yet again as India sailed past West Indies to clinch the five-match ODI series in Kingston, Jamaica on Thursday.
While Kohli and Co were always the favourites to win the series, following West Indies’ 11-run victory in the fourth ODI, the series was up for grabs.
India, after restricting West Indies to 205, made sure they did not stutter in chase and Kohli was a major reason behind it. While the Indian skipper has always worn his heart on his sleeve, the celebrations following his record-breaking hundred clearly indicated how much the ton meant to him.
Kohli, who is tipped to go past Sachin Tendulkar, broke the legendary Indian cricketer’s record as he scored 18th ton in run-chase.
While Kohli has been pivotal in India’s success in recent times, the series win coming in the background of the entire coach Anil Kumble resignation saga.
"Today was another clinical performance for us. Winning in a chase is always a nice feeling," Kohli, who won Man of the Match award for his 28th ODI ton, said after India’s series win.
"It's always about getting the team over the line. It's not about personal stats and personal achievements but ensuring we get to the target that's on the scoreboard," added the Indian skipper.
While Kohli played down the “personal achievements”, it was evident from his on-field celebrations that the hundred mattered a lot to him.
