Mahila' Jayawardena's reply to women's day wish left Twitteratis in splits
One particular Twitter user decided to send women's day wishes to former Sri Lanka cricketer Mahela Jayawardena.
Mumbai: While the world on March 8 was celebrating International Women’s Day, one particular Twitter user decided to send women's day wishes to former Sri Lanka cricketer Mahela Jayawardena.
The similarity between Jayawardena’s first name ‘Mahela’ and ‘mahila’, the hind word for women, may have prompted the tweet.
The former cricketer saw the funny side of the tweet and came back with a witty reply. The user tweeted to the cricketer: “Happy women’s day to the best srilankan cricketer. #womensday”.
Jayawardena replied: “You should know the difference of Mahela and Mahila?”.
He ended the tweet with a ‘surprised looking’ smiley.
The women’s day wish and Jayawardena’s reply invited mixed reactions from the Twitterati. While few Indian Twitter users apologised to him on “his behalf”, others commended the cricketer’s reply.
Here are some of the reactions.
