Ireland vs India: Virat Kohli to miss 1st T20I, confirms Surrey County cricket club

Mumbai: Team India captain Virat Kohli will all but miss the first Twenty20 international against Ireland on June 27.

Kohli, who will be representing Surrey in English County cricket the same month, will however, be available for the second T20I on June 29, just days before India kick off their long England series.

"He'll be playing for us in the Yorkshire game and will then be available for the second T20 in Ireland," Surrey County Cricket Club was quoted saying to India Today.

"Kohli will be available for all cricket throughout the month until the close of Surrey's trip to Scarborough to face Yorkshire," the club had said in a media statement.

There were rumours in the BCCI corridors that the section which wasn’t happy with Kohli skipping the one-off Test match against Afghanistan has played a role in cutting short his county stint in favour of the T20 Internationals against the minnows.

Despite the county matches schedule being announced much in advance before the team selection, it was surprising to find Kohli’s name for the two-match series against Ireland.

The long series against England will kick off with the first T20I at Old Trafford on July 3.
