Here's what Kuldeep Yadav told MS Dhoni before tricking Aaron Finch into a brain fade
The chinaman reveals how he completely bamboozled Aaron Finch during the T20I in Ranchi.
Ranchi: Left-arm chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav once again produced an impressive display, this time, during the first Twenty20 match against Australia in Ranchi on Saturday. Kuldeep scalped two wickets in the form of Aaron Finch and Moises Henriques, bowling out both the Australian batsmen.
In a video posted by series broadcasters Star Sports, the 23-year-old later revealed how he completely bamboozled Finch during the 10th over of the innings to send him back to the pavilion.
With a fielder placed at the square leg boundary, Kuldeep bowled his first three deliveries on a good length and outside off, which Finch constantly swept towards square leg.
The spinner later requested MS Dhoni for a field change behind the stumps, with the fielder at square leg making way to the fine leg boundary.
"Maine Mahi bhai ko bola ki mujhe square leg ke badle, fine leg pe fielder chahiye (I requested Mahi bhai to place a fielder at fine leg instead of square leg)," Kuldeep is heard saying in the video.
This tricked Finch to target the vacant area, but he didn't sense that Kuldeep was going to play his trump card the following delivery.
Kuldeep bowled the flipper, full and straight and sent Finch’s stumps rattling, with the opener failing to flick the delivery towards the square leg area.
The Aussie batsman later revealed that it was a ‘brain fade’ that tricked him.
"I thought on that wicket, to Kuldeep, sweeping was a safer option than taking him over the top. Some balls were spinning," said Finch.
"It was hard to judge the bounce on a track that was quite difficult. I found sweeping was a safer option, one to get off the strike and to get a boundary as well if I could pick out a gap, but I kept picking out a fielder. The ball that I got out on was a little bit of brain fade, I went to sweep and just tried to chip him on the onside for one, and missed it, " added Finch.
Wickets soon tumbled for the visitors after Finch's departure in quick intervals as they slumped to a paltry 118-8 before the Men in Blue chased a restricted target of 48 by 9 wickets.
