Kolkata: Just when it seemed the ninth edition of the Indian Premier League has managed to reduce the number of on-field controversies; it appears the cash-rich league has been hit by one.

The event took place at toss ahead of Kolkata Knight Riders versus Kings XI Punjab game at the Eden Gardens on last Wednesday. After KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir flipped the coin, KXIP captain Murali Vijay, as it was heard, called it heads.

As the coin hit the ground, match referee Amit Sharma said tails which meant Gambhir had won the toss. However, instead of pointing towards KKR skipper, the match referee pointed towards Vijay as the coin-toss winner.

Shastri then went up to Vijay who elected to bowl. Although Vijay’s decision did not help KXIP as KKR won the match by 7 runs, the faux pas at the toss did raise quite a few eyebrows.
