Mumbai: After serving a one year-long ban for their alleged involvement in the sandpapergate, Steve Smith and David Warner returned to the national side to boost the chances of the five-time World champions.
But, the duo are still paying the price for what they have done in the past as the English fans still continue to call them ‘cheats’.
However, the duo rather focused on finding form which they did in the IPL, and from IPL they carried it into the World Cup.
On June 9, when Australia faced India, the duo endured the same fate as the English as well as the Indian fans continued to chant ‘cheats’.
Steve Smith, who was fielding at the deep nearby the boundary line was at the receiving end as the fans continued to boo him.
Seeing Steve at the end of the stick, Indian Skipper, Virat Kohli turned to the stands from which the crowd chanted ‘cheats’, and gestured at the crowd to stop booing Smith. He also signalled the crowd to clap for Smith.

This act of Kohli surprised many, and won the hearts of the fans. The act made by Kohli was mesmerising as well as surprising to see as not every day you would get to see Kohli make this kind of heart winning gestures.
Wow. How good is this from Virat Kohli? Steve Smith is sent to field on the boundary, and immediately cops the most hideous boos from the Indian fans. So Kohli turns to that stand and gestures for them to clap Smith. #CWC19 pic.twitter.com/GBTPaolOXh
