Ahmedabad: Team India cricketer Jasprit Bumrah’s grandfather, Santok Singh Bumrah was found dead on Sunday by the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) after his body was pulled out from Sabarmati River situated between Gandhi Bridge and Dadhichi Bridge.

"He expressed a wish to meet his grandson on his birthday on December 5. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to meet Jasprit. On December 8, Santokh called his son Balvinder Singh, who lives in Jharkhand, and told him that he was leaving to meet his deceased wife," the complaint was quoted saying by the Ahmedabad Mirror.

Another source said that Santok turned up at his daughter's residence at Sonal Apartments, Vastrapur on December 1, but was offered no apathy by the family.

"When we went to meet Jasprit's mother Daljit Kaur at a city school where she is a teacher, she refused to allow my father any contact with Jasprit. She even refused to share her son's phone number so that father could talk to him. My father was grief-stricken by this. He left home on Friday afternoon and never returned," Rajinder said.

Jasprit’s grandfather enjoyed success as a businessman during the 80s and the 90s in Gujrat, having owned three factories. Santok who was assisted by Jasprit’s father, Jasbir in the business, later sold the business after the death of Jasbir.

He then moved to Uddham Singh Nagar in Uttarakhand and has been making a living by driving a tempo since he moved there from Ahmedabad. He previously even expressed the desire of meeting his grandson after 17 years, watching him make waves in international cricket.
