Dharamsala: Taking over the captaincy mantle in the absence of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma had a debut to forget as Team India ODI captain. After Sri Lanka skipper Thisara Perera opted to bowl in the first ODI at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala, Rohit Sharma stated it was a ‘good toss to lose’.

However, the Indian batting order crumbled in no time, with the hosts failing to tackle the Lankan pacers on favourable seam conditions. Suranga Lakmal was at the forefront of the Lanka bowling attack as he ripped apart the top order, dismissing the likes of Rohit, Dinesh Karthik and Manish Pandey. Nuwan Pradeep also joined the party by getting rid of Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya.

India fans were not pleased with the lack of determination shown by the Men in Blue and brutally trolled the team on Twitter for their shambolic batting display.

Reeling at 29-7, MS Dhoni then struck a 40 run partnership with Kuldeep Yadav, before the southpaw was stumped by Niroshan Dickwella off Akila Dhanajaya. Next up, Bumrah also departed for a duck. With nine wickets down already, India will need Dhoni to stay at the end if they are to reach a satisfactory score.
