Here's why Rohit Sharma has struggled in South Africa, reveals former Proteas skipper
Rohit Sharma has scored only 25 runs from four matches against South Africa so far.
Johannesburg: India opener Rohit Sharma has had a forgettable ODI series so far against South Africa, aggregating just 25 runs from four matches. While he failed to put up a show, it was the duo of captain Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan who has put up a decent show with the bat so far.
After three consecutive wins in the six-match ODI series, the hosts bounced back to win by five wickets via the Duckworth Lewis Method in the fourth ODI here on Saturday night.
Former South Africa cricketer Kepler Wessels expressed his concern on the 30-year-old Rohit, who was close to scoring a fifty (47 runs) in the second Test against South Africa recently.
“He (Rohit) will always struggle to score runs in SA because of his footwork. He plants his front foot across to the off-side and in SA, the pitches always seam and bounce a bit. This is the reason that he averages around 10 there. He'll always struggle there because of his technique,” he was quoted saying to the Times of India.
“It doesn't affect him in India and even in Australia, because the ball doesn't seam there, it just bounces, but when you have seam and bounce, with that technique, he's got a problem,” he added.
After losing the fourth ODI to the hosts, Virat Kohli and co will look to seal the series when the two teams head to Port Elizabeth for the fifth ODI on Tuesday.
