Champions Trophy, It is always good if your captain has faith in you: Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah was in top form as he scalped two wickets conceding just 28 runs in his 8-over spell and was adjudged Man of the Match.
Birmingham: Young in his international career, Jasprit Bumrah once again responded to his captain’s call as he, alongside the other Indian bowlers and fielders, set up India’s eight-wicket win against South Africa at the Kennington Oval on Sunday.
The win in the do-or-die encounter also powered India in the semifinals of the tournament and kept alive team’s hopes of defending the title it won four years ago.
"The basic plan was that since the ball was not swinging too much, we were just trying to bowl good, hard lengths," he said. "We were trying to contain the batsmen. That was our basic plan, "he added.
Bumrah, since his debut on the international circuit in December 2015, has been a key part to the Indian side in the limted-overs cricket thanks to his consistent performances.
"It's always good if the captain has so much faith in you and shows so much confidence in you. That always feels good,"Bumrah said.
The Gujarat pacer was once again in top form as he scalped two wickets conceding just 28 runs in his 8-over spell and was adjudged Man of the Match.
Bumrah, who is playing in England for the first time, said that the secret of his success is sticking to basics. "It's my first visit to England, and the wickets have been different to what I expected," he said.
"But it's been a good challenge for me, a good challenge to contain batsmen. To bowl in tough conditions gives you a lot of confidence. It's been a different experience for me. Usually in England the ball swings, but over here the wickets are very hard and good to bat on. So we're very happy that it was a good bowling effort for us, " he added.
India will play Bangladesh in their semi-final at Birmingham on Thursday.
