India vs Bangladesh Test Day 5: India thump Bangladesh to seal 208-run win
Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin scalped 4 wickets each as India outplayed Bangladesh to win Hyderabad Test.
Hyderabad: India continued their unbeaten streak in Test cricket after Virat Kohli-led side trumped Bangladesh in the one-off Test here on Monday. The spin twins – Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin – scalped four wickets each while Ishant Sharma grabbed two wickets as India sealed 208-run win over the Mushfiqur Rahim and Co at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal.
While Mahmudullah tried to put up some fight, his fifty was never going to be enough as the other Bangladeshi batsmen, including Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim, failed to deliver in the second innings.
The win against Bangladesh extended India's unbeaten record to 19 Tests and also powered India to their sixth consecutive Test series win under Kohli.
Bangladesh all out for 250 in 100.3 overs:
WICKETS! Jadeja and Ashwin have cleaned up the Bangladesh tail. Jadeja removed Taijul Islam as Bangladesh lost their ninth wicket and Ashwin sealed India's win after he trapped Taskin Ahmed before the wickets.
Bangladesh 242/8 from 91 overs:
WICKET! Extra bounce and Saha does a wonderful job to hold onto that catch. Jadeja gets his third wicket as Mehedi Hasan departs.
Bangladesh 225/7 from 77 overs:
WICKET! Ishant Sharma strikes again. Mahmudullah could not keep down a short-pitched delivery and Bhuvneshwar Kumar made no mistake holding onto an easy catch in the deep. Bangladesh 7 down.
Bangladesh 213/6 from 71 overs:
WICKET! That's plumb in front and yet, Sabbir Rahaman reviews the decision. Ishant Sharma strikes and then gives Sabbir some send off. Bangladesh 6 down.
Bangladesh 176/5 from 63 overs:
With Shakib and Mushfiqur back in the dressing room, Bangladesh will bank on Mahmudullah and the lower order to secure a draw. India, though, are clear cut favourites to secure a win.
Bangladesh 162/5 from 53 overs:
WICKET! What have you done Mushfiqur Rahim! Reckless shot that is in R Ashwin's first over. He decides to take on India's premier off-spinner, fails to time it and Ravindra Jadeja takes an easy catch.
Bangladesh 155/4 from 50 overs:
Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah have denied India a chance their fifth wicket as the pair successfully is mixing caution with aggression to keep the scorecard ticking.
Bangladesh 108/4 from 38 overs:
WICKET! India make early inroads as Ravindra Jadeja removes Shakib Al Hasan in the third over of the day. The ball just took off from the rough outside the off-stump, hit Shakib's bat and kissed his thigh pad before Pujara took a catch at forward short-leg.
Hyderabad: Bangladesh have a tough task at their hand to save the one-off Test as India press for victory on day five here on Monday.
While it is unlikely that the Mushfiqur Rahim-led side, who are 3 down f0r 103 while chasing 459, will go for a win, Virat Kohli-led India are favourites to win the one-off Test at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal.
Bangladesh will hope that two of their most experienced campaigners – Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim – to eek out a draw. However, that won’t be a walk in the park on the fifth day track against R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. While the Indian spinners will be a threat, Indian pacers – Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar – will be more than handful on the Hyderabad wicket.
