England vs India: Virat Kohli joins Clive Lloyd, Ricky Ponting in elusive list

Nottingham: India captain Virat Kohli just can’t stop making and breaking records.

After recently becoming the fastest batsman to 2000 T20I runs during the series against England, the 29-year-old scored 75 runs in the Men in Blue’s eight-wicket victory against the same opponents in the first ODI here on Thursday.

Captain Kohli added another feather to his cap when when he claimed his 39th victory within his first 50 ODIs as captain, with West Indies’ Clive Lloyd and Australia’s Ricky Ponting the only others to do so.

Kuldeep Yadav and Rohit Sharma spearheaded India as they crushed England by eight wickets in the first one-day international at Trent Bridge on Thursday.

Sharma hit a wonderful 137 not out after Yadav did the damage with the ball with six wickets, helping India win with 10 overs to spare.

Jos Buttler top-scored for England - which has the chance to level the series at Lord's on Saturday - with 53 but they failed to deal with Yadav's spin before toiling in the field.

Yadav claimed 6-25 from 10 overs - including 38 dot balls - as England was outclassed and dismissed for 268 having lost the toss and put into bat.

The teams will now travel to London for the second ODI, as the visitors eye to calaim another series.
