Mumbai: India limited-overs skipper MS Dhoni isn’t the only cricketer to play the ‘helicopter shot’. When the shot didn’t have a name, former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin tried it out.
The shot, which is basically digging a yorker with the willow by forming a semicircle in the follow through, is Dhoni’s trademark.
But Azharuddin, known for his elegance, played a similar shot against England in a Test match at Eden Gardens, Kolkata in 1993. He smashed 182 off 192 balls and the innings included the unconventional shot; which, in today’s date, is called the helicopter shot.
Unfortunately, Azhar threw his wicket trying to play the shot.
(Fast forward to 14:00 to check out the shot)
