Pune: Indian skipper Virat Kohli played another gem of an innings in Pune to lead India to a sensational win over England. India chased down a mammoth target of 351 – which started looking more daunting after India were reduced to 63/4 – with the help of centuries from Kohli (122) and middle-order batsman Kedar Jadhav (120).

While Kohli led the team valiantly, there were moments when former skipper MS Dhoni seem to forget that he was no longer the captain. One such moment arrived when Eoin Morgan offered a faint edge to the wicket-keeper off Hardik Pandya’s bowling. The on-field umpire gave it not out but the gloves man was confident and went for the TV referral straight away.

It was a successful appeal and helped India to remove the England captain. Normally the review request is made by the fielding captain. Kohli asked the umpire for review after he saw a confident Dhoni signalling for TV review.

Captain Kohli had said before the first ODI that Dhoni’s experience would be invaluable as far as reviews are concerned.

“I saw a stat that 95 per cent of his (Dhoni) appeals he’s made in his career have been successful. As captain, I have no sort of extra thinking as far as DRS is concerned. He’s one voice, if he tells me it’s outside the line or it is missing, the decision stands there.

"It’s not left to doubt or any further debate from there on. He’s someone who has always been very smart with decision making, as far as appeals are concerned as well. I think his word will be the one I will trust as far as DRS is concerned. Because he is in the best position, plus he’s the most intelligent cricketer around,” said Kohli on Saturday.
