Kumar Sangakkara to join Sri Lanka squad in India
The 39-year-old, roped in as a selector recently, will join the team for the world tournament.
Mumbai: Sri Lanka's new selector Kumar Sangakkara will join the squad in India for the ICC World Twenty20. This was revealed by Mohan De Silva, the Honorary Secretary, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
The 39-year-old former wicketkeeper and batsman was made a member of the selection committee a week ago.
"Sanga is a knowledgeable player and will be able to motivate the players", the secretary added.
Kumar Sangakkara, Romesh Kaluwitharana, Ranjith Madurasinghe and Lalith Kaluperuma are the other members of the selection committee headed by Aravinda de Silva.
"Because of Aravinda's other commitments he has no plan to join the squad but there will be a rotation policy among selectors (not necessarily on World T20 Event)", the Secretary added.
Sangakkara has a superb rapport with team's new coach Graham Ford. Interestingly, Sanga was instrumental in hiring Ford for the Sri Lanka job.
Sanga's inputs to the players will be handy for their match against West Indies on March 21.
Sanga retired from Tests in August last year.
