Perth: Day four of the second Test between Australia and India at the Perth Stadium here belonged to the hosts on Monday.

Chasing a target of 287, India are 112-5, with Hanuma Vihari (24) and Rishabh Pant (9) at the crease.

KL Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara departed early in India’s run chase, whereas the partnership between Kohli and Murali Vijay just lasted for 35 runs.

The big moment came when the India skipper was dismissed by Australia’s in-form spinner Nathan Lyon.

Following Vijay’s dismissal, Ajinkya Rahane (30) too played his part but Hazlewood struck in the 35th over to dismiss the middle-order batsman.

Earlier, Mohammed Shami’s career-best figures of 6-56 had helped the visitors bowl out Tim Paine’s men for 243 runs. Bumrah had finished with a spell of 3-39.

Tea break report

India lost KL Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara early on in the run chase with Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood picking up one wicket each.

At tea break on Day four, the visitors were 15-2, needing another 272 more runs to win.

KL Rahul continued to struggle as Mitchell Starc seemed too powerful for the 26-year-old.

Australia were bowled out for 243 in their second innings during the second Test against India, meaning that the visitors needed 287 runs to win.

Mohammed Shami finished with career-best figures of 6-56, whereas Jasprit Bumrah finished with a spell of 3-39.

Usman Khawaja (72) was the top-scorer for the hosts in the second innings.

Usman Khawaja and Tim Paine extended their partnership to 70 Monday, riding their luck to increase Australia's lead slowly in the second Test against India in Perth.

At lunch on the fourth day, the home side were 190 for four in their second innings, an overall advantage of 233 runs as they look to post a match-winning lead and square the four-Test series.

Khawaja was not out 67 and captain Paine, who was involved in a verbal exchange with Indian counterpart Virat Kohli at the end of the third day's play, was on 37.

Earlier, Virat Kohli’s 25th Test century had taken the visitors to 283, conceding a 43-run lead.
