Mohammed Shami-Hasin Jahan saga: Summoned by Kolkata Police, cricketer stays back
Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Praveen Tripathi confirmed that Shami has been summoned.
Kolkata: Cricketer Mohammed Shami has been summoned by the Kolkata Police in connection with a complaint of domestic violence and infidelity lodged by his wife.
Shami stayed here while his team, the Delhi Daredevils, left the city.
A Cricket Association of Bengal official said the Delhi Daredevils pacer did not travel with the team for their next match in Bengaluru against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 21.
He had played against the Kolkata Knight Riders in an IPL match at the Eden Gardens last night.
"The DD team left around 3 pm but Shami could not board the flight as was summoned by the Kolkata Police. There's no update yet on his joining the DD," the official told PTI.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Praveen Tripathi confirmed that Shami has been summoned.
"Yes, Mohammed Shami has been asked to come to Lalbazar (the Kolkata Police headquarters) tomorrow at 2 pm in connection with the investigation," Tripathi told PTI.
Shami's elder brother Hasib Ahmed, who was also booked in the case, has also been called on Wednesday at around noon, Tripathi said.
However, it's learnt that the cricketer has asked his lawyers to inform the police authorities that he will not be available.
Tripathi said he is yet to receive any communication from Shami in this regard. "Most likely he will come," he said.
The DD pacer's homecoming was spoilt last night after Andre Russell took him to the cleaners smashing him for six sixes in the KKR's 71-run win.
Shami was in Kolkata for the first time since his wife, Hasin Jahan, made startling claims on her Facebook page about infidelity and domestic abuse and posted screenshots of the pacer's alleged chats with multiple women, early last month.
While Shami denied all the allegations, Jahan filed a written complaint against the cricketer. An FIR was lodged against Shami and his four family members in Jadavpur police station of the city.
The four are Shami's mother Anjuman Ara Begum, sister Sabina Anjum, brother Mohammedd Hasib Ahmed and his wife Shama Parveen.
Shami also faces summons from the third judicial magistrate of Alipore Court after Hasin filed a petition against her husband, seeking a monthly maintenance of Rs 10 lakh for her and her daughter.
