Visakhapatnam: Virat Kohli missed out on a rare record on Thursday morning as he got out to Moeen Ali.

Kohli could have become the first Indian batsman to score three double centuries in a calendar year had he went on to cross the 200-run mark.

India started the day at 317/4 with Ravichandran Ashwin and unbeaten Kohli (151) at the crease. Ali played the spoilsport for India in the first session as he clinched Kohli’s wicket for 167. The offie grabbed three wickets in the morning at the Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium.

Skipper Kohli, who played a solid innings of 151 on Thursday, began the second day with the same ease. The bowling duo of Stuart Broad and James Anderson proved ineffective for the visitors as the flamboyant batsman batted comfortably to take his score to 167.

The change of bowling did the trick for Alastair Cook. Ali forced Kohli to make a rare mistake as the batsman ended up edging the second ball he faced from the off-spinner to slips. Ben Stokes took the all important catch to dismiss the Indian captain.
