London: Team India test bowler Ishant Sharma made a strong start to his English county career by scalping five wickets against Wawickshire in his first game.
The pacer picked up three wickets in the first innings followed by two wickets in the second innings. Ishant, who went unsold in the Indian Premier League 2018 player’s auction, was signed by second division side Sussex.
The lanky bowler is in England preparing for the upcoming India tour of England, which is scheduled to take place from July to September this year. The 29-year-old scalped opener Will Rhodes, Adam Hose and Tim Ambrose in the first innings as Sussex bowled out Warwickshire on 299. In the second innings, Ishant picked up wickets of Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott.
The four-day contest ended in a draw as only three innings were possible as rain played a spoilsport. Sussex county club shared the video of Ishant's all five scalps in the contest.
Sussex will now face Leicestershire in the next round of the second division.
