Mumbai: Injuries are part and parcel of the sport, while some players recover early than expected, some injuries keep players out for long time. Accidental injuries have ended career of players.

South Africa’s Mark Boucher retired from cricket after serious eye injury during  English county game. Mark Kieswetter retired early in his career after he was struck in the face when a ball went between his helmet and grille, breaking his nose and damaging his eye socket.

Mumbai Indian’s wicket keeper batsman Ishan Kishan also suffered a freak injury on Tuesday after a throw from his team mate Hardik Pandya hit him on the eye during match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Wankhede on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old was taken off the field immediately and skipper Rohit Sharma handed the gloves to Mumbaikar Aditya Tare.

The incident occurred in the 12th over of the RCB innings, when Virat Kohli tried to take a single of Jasprit Bumrah’s delivery. Pandya picked up the ball and threw it towards Kishan who wasn't wearing a helmet and that ball hit him directly on the right eye.

The wicketkeeper fell to the ground with serious pain. A physio was called to take look at his swollen right eye. The Mumbai crowd cheered the young cricketer as he walked off on his feet.

Hardik Pandya took to social media Twitter to issue a heartfelt apology to his Mumbai Indians (MI) team-mate. On Wednesday,  the all-rounder also shared a picture of himself with a much better looking Kishan, and wrote,"Mera cutie pie, Sorry bhai! Stay strong."

Kishan, who plays for Jharkhand in domestic cricket, was signed by Mumbai Indians in the 2018 IPL players auction. Meanwhile Rohit Sharma came back to form after hitting a brilliant 94 runs against RCB. Mumbai bowlers, especially Krunal Pandya produced a clinical performance with the ball as MI beat RCB by 46 runs.
