Ravi Shastri highest paid cricket coach but Virat Kohli is not highest paid cricketer

Mumbai: Team India’s head coach Ravi Shastri has become the highest-earning cricket coach in the world ($1.17 million), a recent report by ESPNcricinfo has stated.

India skipper Virat Kohli, meanwhile earns even lesser than Shastri, owning just $1 million, excluding the amount he gets from advertising. Behind the 55-year-old Shastri is Australia coach Darren Lehmann, who earns almost $ 0.55 million.

Former South Africa coach Russell Domingo is the least-earning among cricket coaches, with $0.09 million under his belt. Sri Lanka’s interim coach Nic Pothas is just ahead of him, with $0.14 million.

Coming back to the team captains’ list, Australia’s Steve Smith is the most-earning skipper earning $ 1.47 million, while his rival captain Joe Root is second, with $1.38 million.

It has to be noted that Zimbabwe’s Greame Cremer is the least-earning captain, earning $0.09 million, whereas Bangladesh’s Shakib al Hasan earns better than him, owning $0.14.

When compared to other sports athletes, Portugal and Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo earns $58 million a year, whereas Formula one racer Lewis Hamilton and basketball star LeBron James earn $38 million and $31.2 million respectively.

Meanwhile, reigning Wimbledon champion Roger Federer earns just $6 million, whereas professional golfer Rory MclLRoy earns better than him, with $16 million to his name.  

Virat Kohli-led Team India will face off against New Zealand for a three-match ODI series, which will be followed by as many T20s. The first ODI will be played at the Wankhede Stadium here on Sunday.
