Watch: Jonny Bairstow freakishly damages his ankle
The England cricketer managed to get back onto the field and score 53.
Visakhapatnam: Jonny Bairstow joined the list of cricketers who had freakish cricket injuries as he jogged onto the field on day three of the second India-England Test in Visakhapatnam on Saturday.
The cricket history is full of examples where the players have injured themselves in a rather than strange manner. Glenn McGrath once landed his foot on the cricket ball right ahead of the Ashes Test in 2005 and was ruled out of the entire series. Not only did England cash in on his absence but also went onto win the iconic Test series after the gap almost two decades.
Coming back to Bairstow, as Indian players were getting into the huddle, the England wicketkeeper-batsman and Ben Stokes were getting ready to take the field. Bairstow jumped to loosen himself as he crossed the boundary rope. But then, it seemed he must have done something wrong to his ankle while warming up. He rushed back to the dressing room as England hoped there is nothing too serious with Bairstow.
England were fortunate that Bairstow quickly went out to bat. Although he could not prolong his stay in the middle for post lunch session but made sure he and Stokes put up a 110-run partnership with Bairstow scoring 53.
