Cuttack: It is already known how astute Mahendra Singh Dhoni is as a cricketer. The Jharkhand maverick, although unconventional in his approach at times, has a sharp eye on what’s going around on the cricket field. That was visible for one more time when he almost pushed Yuvraj Singh to opt for a review.

The incident happened during 41st over of the Indian innings when Yuvraj tried to squeeze out Chris Woakes delivery past the wicketkeeper Jos Buttler. The southpaw could not manage to get past flying Buttler as the England team’s appeal for caught behind was held by the umpire.

Dhoni had seen the turn of events from the close quarters and did not waste any time to opt for a DRS. What was interesting to see was the fact Yuvraj was not too sure whether to go for the review or not. But Dhoni, who was 100 per cent sure that the ball had bounced after hitting Yuvraj’s bat, just urged the Punjab batsman to refer the decision.

As Yuvraj did and the replays showed, the ball had bounced after kissing the outside edge of Yuvraj’s bat and before Buttler could catch it. The on-field umpire had to overturn his decision and Yuvraj resumed his innings.

It was not the first time in the series though that Dhoni pulled off his magic with DRS. In the first game of the series in Pune, Eoin Morgan was the victim of Dhoni’s brilliance.

While Dhoni had stepped down from India’s limited-overs captaincy, his successor Virat Kohli had gone gaga about his predecessor’s record in regards with DRS.

Kohli had said. “His word would be the one I would trust on DRS. He is the most intelligent cricketer around. (I) Saw a stat that 95 per cent of Dhoni's appeals have been successful. He's one person I would trust as far as DRS is concerned."

Going by Dhoni’s form, those 95 per cent record seems unlikely to be broken.
