Here's why Yuzvendra Chahal wears glasses while fielding, reveals his father
Yuzvendra Chahal picked up 16 wickets from six matches in the recently-concluded ODI series against South Africa.
Mumbai: Team India's leg-break googly bowler Yuzvendra Chahal has started using a spectacle while fielding. On Sunday, in a Twenty20 match against South Africa, he was seen wearing specs while fielding at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.
On inquiring with his father in Haryana, it was learnt that the glasses he has now started using is for precautionary measure.
"Before going on a South Africa tour, my son was advised (by an eye specialist) to wear glasses occasionally,” he said.
"He has not been using it while bowling or batting but only while fielding". His eye sight is not weak but was advised (o use it) when he underwent the the government medical tests which were compulsory before joining the new job".
"He has been selected as an income tax inspector and will be joining the post in Delhi immediately after his return from the current tour,” he added.
Notably, Chahal is the only player in the current team using the glasses (not sun glasses) on field, though captain Virat Kohli and wicket-keeper MS Dhoni do wear glasses but not on the field of play.
There have been very few players who wore glasses while batting and the list includes India's Virender Sehwag, Clive Llyod, Eddie Barlow, MJK Smith, Walter Hadlee (Richard Hadlee's father) and Geoff Boycott.
Daniel Vettori was a top spin bowler of his generation who always played with his glasses.
