Mumbai: The first ever pink ball match in India at the Eden Gardens (Kolkata) between Bhowanipore and Mohun Bagan wreaked havoc. It seems that the bowlers will have a lot to look forward to when armed with the pink cherry.

Seven wickets fell in the first session leaving Bhowanipore reeling at 45/7 in the CAB Super League. Five batsmen were dismissed for ducks.

Bhowanipore finished with 83/7 at the end of the session, thanks to the partnership between Uddipan Mukherjee (28*) and Sujit Kumar Yadav (23*).

Mohammed Shami steamed in with the pink ball and disturbed the batsmen after Mohun Bagan’s innings ended with 299.

People flocked in large number to catch a glimpse of Shami – the World Cup hero of 2015 – who was playing after a long time. Shami felt the cramps but icepacks came to his rescue and he finished his spell with three wickets under his belt.

Sanjib Sanyal gave him good company from the other end, with two wickets. There were no spinners in the afternoon session which looked surprising on an Indian pitch.

Bhowanipore trail by 216 runs and will look to avoid the follow-on.
