Bengaluru: Shreyas Gopal scored a fine 149 as President’s XI emerged champions following their draw with Combined XI in the Safi Darashah Trophy cricket tournament here on Tuesday.
In the last league clash, President’s XI, with a better average, finished on top of the table with seven points while Bangalore Zone (7) ended runners-up.
From 174/6 overnight, Shreyas’ 188-ball knock that was studded with 17 hits to the fence and a six powered President’s XI to a mammoth 436 for 9 as they stretched their lead to 325. Sharath Srinivas contributed 83 while Gowtham K helped himself to a 50.
Spearhead Abhimanyu Mithun, who had picked up six on Day 1, ended with 7/53. In their second essay, Combined XI were 76 for no loss with Mashooq Hussain unbeaten on 43 as President’s XI claimed the trophy.
In another encounter, left-arm spinner Likith Bannur’s six-wicket haul was the highlight of Vice President’s XI draw with Bangalore Zone. Overnight 46/2, Bangalore succumbed to 232 to give away first innings points to VP’s XI.
