ICC ODI rankings: AB de Villiers pips Team India's Virat Kohli to become No 1 batsman

Dubai: South Africa’s AB de Villiers has overtaken India skipper Virat Kohli to clinch the numero uno spot in the latest ICC ODI rankings for batsmen. It was a blistering knock of 171 from just 104 deliveries which helped the hard-hitting batsman to take the number one position.
AB de Villiers has 879 points at the top, with captain Kohli placed second at 877 points.
On Thursday, after South Africa's home series win over Bangladesh in the three-match ODI series (2-0), the Faf du Plessis-led side clinched the number one spot in the team rankings, overtaking India.
In the bowler’s rankings, Pakistan’s Hasan Ali has climbed to the number one spot, whereas India’s Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah are placed sixth and eighth respectively.
Mohammad Hafeez, another Pakistani, has clinched top spot in the all-rounders rankings in ODIs, but no Indian s feature in the top 10 list for the same.
A noticeable development in the all-rounders rankings has been the promotion of Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi, who is in third place.
Virat Kohli-led Team India will play a three-match ODI series against Kane Williamson’s New Zealand, starting with the first ODI at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
The Men in Blue got off to a successful start in the home season, after having defeated Australia 4-1 in the ODI series and having managed to level the T20 series 1-1.
