Here's how Virat Kohli will train for South Africa series post Delhi reception
India are going to play three Tests, six ODIs and three Twenty20s in a gruelling tour to South Africa.
Mumbai: Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma are getting ready to host their wedding reception in New Delhi on Thursday following a dream wedding in Italy and honeymoon in Finland.
The couple will host another reception in Mumbai on December 26, where the who’s who are expected to be invited from the cricket fraternity and Bollywood.
However, just if anyone had thought that Kohli may not find time to train ahead of the gruelling tour to South Africa, where India are going to play three Tests, six ODIs and three Twenty20s, then there is a news for all them.
The Indian skipper is set to train with his childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma from the next day of his Delhi wedding reception. Kohli’s coach, who was present at in Tuscany, Italy for his protégé’s wedding, said that Kohli, despite having a very little time, will train.
"We have very little time now, but there's still a week for practice. We will work on his batting," Sharma told Mid-Day.
"Virat is very good at the pull shot and now he's working on the cut. As a young player, he was fortunate to play on matting wickets at the academy and those pitches helped him deal with short deliveries well. That is why he is comfortable against the short stuff and is not scared of anybody," he added.
Kohli, who made debut in 2007 after powering the Indian U-19 team to World Cup triumph in Kuala Lampur, has been one of the best batsmen of the modern era. In fact, there is a belief amongst some quarters that he can surpass some of the records of Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar.
Sharma, who has seen Kohli grow from close quarters, though refused to take any credit for his ward’s success as he also revealed how Kohli will prepare for the South Africa where he is set to face the pace brigade of Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel, Kagiso Rabada and Vernon Philander.
"It's all due to his talent, hard work and work ethic. More than anything else, it's his hunger for runs and victories that has made him such a consistent performer," said Sharma.
"We prepare wickets which he will encounter in South Africa and there will be fast bowlers to bowl to him as well. There will be a lot of preparation for the South Africa tour, but of course he knows how to tackle such situations," concluded Sharma.
