Blind World Cup needs support: Mahantesh GK

Defending champions India will aim to retain the crown, pitching the rattle ball in the first match against Bangladesh in Delhi on January 30.

Bengaluru: Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium will play hosts to the final of the second T20 World Cup for the Blind on Feb. 12, but with the just a week to go for the start of the tournament, the organisers are still short of funds.

Mahantesh GK, president of the Cricket Association for the Blind and founder of NGO for the disabled Samarthanam, said on Friday, “The total budget for the tournament is about Rs 8 crore but we are still short of 40 per cent of the funds. Blind cricket needs the fillip and many sponsors are coming forward. We are sure to hold the tournament is a big way.”

Eleven league matches and one semifinal of the 10-nation tournament, which includes 2012’s finalists Pakistan, will be played at the Alur Ground. Defending champions India will aim to retain the crown, pitching the rattle ball in the first match against Bangladesh in Delhi on January 30.
