Hyderabad: Former Test cricketer, BCCI in-charge president and Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) secretary N. Shivlal Yadav on Wednesday exhorted the HCA to spare a thought for the family of Marredpally Sporting player Virendra Naik, who died while playing HCA’s A-3 Division one-day league match at the Marredpally Playground in Secunderabad on Sunday.

“One of our cricketers has died on the field. The HCA should announce adequate monetary relief for his homemaker wife, son (8) and daughter (5) as a beneficial gesture. I suggest a sum of Rs 5 lakh at least, which should not pinch the HCA in anyway,” Shivlal told this newspaper on Wednesday.

The HCA is yet to release a statement of condolence following Virendra Naik’s death though.

However, Sporting’s current and former players are planning to pool in contributions and deposit the fund in the names of Viren’s children.
