The Saurashtra batsman, who last played a match for India against England in a T20 in February, had failed the fitness test in August, and thus was not eligible for selection in the national side.
Later in October, it was made mandatory by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that passing the Yo-Yo test was a requirement for selection in the Indian team.
However, at that time Suresh Raina was not the only cricketer who failed the test. Yuvraj Singh had suffered the same fate, as he too failed to clear the test. However, Cheteshwar Pujara was deemed to be fit and had passed the test.
Rohit Sharma is currently leading a Virat Kohli-less side in a T20 series against Sri Lanka. Captain Kohli will be back for India’s tour to South Africa, starting with the first Test on January 4.
