Dhoni suffers muscle spasm, Parthiv to join squad
The veteran wicketkeeper will fly to Dhaka at the earliest to join squad.
Mumbai: India ODI and T20I skipper MS Dhoni suffered a muscle spasm in the back during a training session in Dhaka on Monday.
With the ICC World Twenty20 approaching, the Indian selection committee didn’t want to take a risk with Dhoni and hence, named Parthiv Patel as his back-up.
Patel, a senior to Dhoni with regard to work experience, will fly to Dhaka at the earliest.
The southpaw, a regular in the IPL, is a seasoned T20 player having played with Chennai Super Kings with Dhoni, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians.
Earlier, Parthiv kept wickets to veterans like Anil Kumble, Ajit Agarkar and the clan under Sourav Ganguly's captaincy.
It will be a happy reunion for Parthiv as he will have old friends Ashish Nehra and Yuvraj Singh for company.
Patel is 20 Tests, 38 ODIs old but has featured in only a couple of T20Is for the Men in Blue. Going by his IPL record and experience in the middle, he is likely to come handy.
