Mumbai: Mithali Raj, who was dropped for the World T20 semifinal against England, attended India women’s team selection committee meeting on Friday. Mithali is the captain of the ODI side. It’s learnt that Harmanpreet Kaur, skipper of the T20 side, joined the meeting via Skype as she is currently in Australia, playing the Big Bash league.

“The newly appointed coach W.V. Raman was not present,” said a source.

“Unlike men’s team selections, the captain and coach are not invited in the selection committee meetings. Only their views are obtained by the selectors,” the source added.

Both captains may have been invited at the insistence of Vinod Rai, the CoA chief.

Meanwhile, out-of-form Veda Krishna murthy has been dropped from both ODI and T20 squads picked for the New Zealand tour beginning next month.

India will play three ODIs in New Zealand beginning January 24 as part of the ICC Women’s Championship before playing three T20 Internationals. The New Zealand tour will be the team’s first assignment after their  controversial exit from the World T20 last month when it lost to England in the semifinals.
