Pujara, who was leading Saurashtra in Vijay Hazare Trophy, immediately left for Rajkot to meet his wife and newborn child. His team registered a three-wicket win over Baroda in the quarterfinal to earn a spot in the semifinals.
Before the birth of his first child, Pujara re-signed for English county heavyweights Yorkshire in Division 1 with an eye on five-Test series against England in August. He earlier played with the same team in 2015, when they went onto win the County Championship.
On New Year’s day last year Pujara made an announcement on Twitter that he and Puja are soon going to become parents. Sharing a picture with his wife, Pujara tweeted, “We’re expecting our little bundle of joy this year. May the coming year be as blessed and happy for everyone as it’ll be for us.” The two got married in February 2013.
