Mumbai: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary has challenged the appointment of BCCI’s new Marketing General Manager Priya Gupta, pointing her controversial article on Deepika Padukone a few years back.

In an email sent to BCCI CEO Rahul Johri, which was copied to the Committee of Administrators (CoA) and other BCCI officials, Choudhary mentioned a piece written by Gupta as ‘Slut-shaming Deepika Padukone’, according to a report by The Indian Express.

Gupta, who was a part of Times of India, had penned an article back in 2014 where she lashed at the Bollywood actress.

“A simple search on the internet, revealed the following stories mentioning the candidate selected for the post we are presently concerned with, regarding an article that the person authored, the content of which is for everyone to see,” Choudhary wrote raising objection over BCCI’s recruitment process that also involved firm, Korn Ferry.

It all started when The Times of India tweeted a video of Deepika with the caption: “OMG! Deepika Padukone’s cleavage show” to which the actress replied saying, “YES! I am a Woman. I have breasts AND a cleavage! You got a problem!!??”

Defending her organisation, Gupta hit back at Deepika, asking why there’s hypocrisy.

“Deepika, just for the record, we do not zoom into a woman’s vagina or show her nipples… What about all the times, and there have been many, when you have flaunted your body off screen – while dancing on stage, posing for magazine covers, or doing photo ops at movie promotional functions? What ‘role’ do you play there? So why the hypocrisy?” the article read.

Asked to comment on the matter, Gupta chose to stay mum, “I really have no clue about it and I don’t want to comment anything on it.” She had been offered a salary package of Rs 1.65 crore per annum for the BCCI Marketing GM’s role to which she accepted the proposal.
