Mumbai: Former Indian opener and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Gautam Gambhir is leading from East Delhi constituency by a huge margin of votes.

The 37-year-old, who is making his political debut at the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, has received 3,10,086 number of votes. His nearest rival Arvinder Singh Lovely of the Congress has received 1,53,279 votes at the time of writing this story.

The biggest disappointment from this constituency, however, has been Atishi from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Atishi is credited with revolutionising education in Delhi and was expected to give Gambhir a tough fight. But Atishi has so far received only 1,10,128 number of votes, accounting for just 18.6 per cent of the total number votes counted.

Gambhir took a dig at his Congress and AAP adversaries-- Lovely and Atishi through his twitter account. He tweeted: "Neither it's a 'Lovely' cover drive and nor it is an 'Atishi Ballebaazi'. It's just the BJP's 'Gambhir' ideology which people have supported."

Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh also congratulated Gambhir via twitter.

The 2011 World Cup winner was also involved in a controversial fiasco with AAP after being accused of circulating derogatory pamphlets against his opponent Atishi.
