Lodha effect: Karnataka polls put off
On the candidature, KSCA will wait for further clarification on the roles in the governing body.
Bengaluru: Following the Lodha Committee recommendations, the Karnataka State Cricket Association have put off the elections scheduled for August 7.
In the emergent meeting held on Friday, Brijesh Patel, secretary of KSCA said, “We had an emergent managing committee meeting and have unanimously decided to postpone the elections as per the directions of the Supreme Court.”
Patel, who was aiming for a fifth term in the office added, “The committee will carry on. In fact, the last elections were in December and we had time till December (to hold elections). We want to streamline and we decided to have it before September, as per our bylaws.”
On the candidature, KSCA will wait for further clarification on the roles in the governing body. “Let them come out with… if there will be a president, 3 vice-presidents, or one vice-president or will there be an apex council, there is no clarity on that… what we are doing with the BCCI, will they replicate the same thing. That clarity is required,” Patel observed.
Meanwhile, spokesperson of the KSCA, Vinay Mrutyunjaya claimed a new committee will be formed to study the Lodha Committee recommendations. “We have decided to form a committee to look into the implementation of the Lodha Committee recommendations. The Secretary has suggested the name of Santosh Hegde (former chief of Lokayukta, Karnataka). “We need to meet him and try to request him if he can guide us in the implementation,” he added.
