It was in the same over when Kohli, playing his 200th ODI, reached to his 45th ODI fifty. Kohli played an entertaining innings of 121, as he got to his 31st ODI ton, surpassing Australian Ricky Ponting’s record of 30 tons in the 50-over format.

However, the Kane Williamson-led New Zealand team spoilt the hosts’ party as they cruised to a six-wicket win, thanks to a 200-run partnership between Tom Latham and Ross Taylor. With this win, the Kiwis have taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.

The two teams will now head to Pune, where Virat Kohli’s men will look to level the series as they face off once again in the second ODI on Wednesday.
