New Delhi: AB de Villiers shocked everyone on Wednesday after announcing retirement from international cricket. The proteas legend brought down curtains to his glittering 14-year career by making the news public on his own Twitter account through a video.

“I have decided to retire from all international cricket with immediate effect,” he said on Wednesday. “After 114 Test matches, 228 ODI’s and 78 T20 Internationals, it is time for others to take over. I have had my turn, and to be honest, I am tired he said.

Wishes began to pour  on social media Twitter as fans and cricketers wished ABD all the best for his future endeavour.

Apart from cricketers, Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma also sent a special message for the South Africa legend.

Anushka tweeted, "In life, what we do to positively impact the lives of others has greater meaning than what we accomplish for ourselves. You’ve managed to do both beautifully & always with such grace & integrity. Wishing you & Danielle a blessed, happy life ahead @ABdeVilliers17 @DanielleDV27."

ABD, 34, is known for playing unorthodox shots all around the ground, as well as fast scoring. He holds the world record for the fastest half-century (16 balls), hundred (31 balls) and 150 (64 balls) in ODIs.

The right-handed batsman last played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2018 against Rajasthan Royals. The match resulted in a loss for RCB and they were eventually knocked out of the race to the playoffs.
