Pune: Virat Kohli owned up to his mistake in judgement of Man of the Match Steve O’Keefe’s ball that got the India captain out for just 13 runs in the second innings of the first Test against Australia on Saturday.

Kohli, who had scored a duck in the first innings, was looking to consolidate the second innings after openers Murali Vijay and KL Rahul got out cheaply.

The India skipper completely misjudged a straight delivery by O’Keefe, thinking that it will turn away from him. However, the ball continued in its normal trajectory and went past a bewildered-looking Kohli to crash into the stumps.

Kohli owned up to his mistake during the post match press conference. He said, “It was a judgement error from my side. I left the ball too early. Should have waited for the ball a little more.

“You can’t say which ball is going to turn and which isn’t. You’ve got to play the line and I certainly didn’t do that. So it was my fault,” he concluded.

Contrary to what many experts had predicted, Australia completely dominated India in the first of the four Test matches of the Border-Gavaskar series, ending the world no. 1 Test side’s 19-match unbeaten run.

Incidentally, this was Australia’s first Test win on Indian soil in 4,502 days.
