Ajay leads Indian blind cricket team to World Cup victory

Team gets appreciation from PM for stupendous performance at 5th International Blind WC in Sharjah.

GUNTUR: The Indian Blind Cricket Team has won the Blind Cricket World Cup, defeating Pakistan in the final match, played in Sharjah at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The team has won the T20 World Cup twice and one ODI World Cup under captain Ajay Kumar.

Mr. I. Ajay Kumar Reddy, hailing from Macharla of Guntur district, is an all-rounder. He is a fast bowler and batsman. Speaking to DC, Mr. Reddy said that in the World Cup finals  Pakistan had set a huge target of 308 runs in 40 overs. However, his team scored 308 runs in 39 overs. 

Mr. Reddy added that President Mr. Ram Nath Kovind, had invited the team and congratulated the team’s undaunted spirit. Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi too  stated,“Our cricket team makes the nation proud and inspires every Indian with their game and phenomenal attitude. The Indian Blind Cricket team members are true champions.”

He recalled that at the age of four,  a door fell on him damaging his left eye and the infection affected his right eye’s vision too. He said he did not lose courage and practised hard to secure a place in the Indian team. His teammates, Durga Rao,  Venkateswara Rao of Srikakulam, Prem Kumar of Kurnool and Mahendar of Hyderabad are Telugus.
