Virender Sehwag claims tweet did not mock Gurmehar Kaur
Virender Sehwag, who came under criticism for a tweet which was taken in context with Gurmehar Kaur's campaign, has broken his silence.
Mumbai: Virender Sehwag has defended himself over a tweet he posted which dragged him into a huge controversy after it was taken in reference to Delhi University student Gurmehar Kaur's Facebook posts.
Sehwag has come out and said that his tweet was not meant for Gurmehar and that his words had been misinterpreted.
"My tweet wasn't intended for Gurmehar. It was plain fun but people construed the other way," he told India Today.
Gurmehar has taken a lot of flak over her campaign against the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) student body after the violence at Ramjas College in Delhi last week. In a video, she had written messages on placards appealing for peace between India and Pakistan, one of which said, "Pakistan did not kill my dad, war killed him'.
On Sunday, Sehwag had taken to Twitter to post a photo, holding a placard which said "I did not score two triple centuries, my bat did". The former India opener was criticised after his tweet was taken as directly mocking Gurmehar’s video.
