Mumbai: Intikhab Alam, who was a manager of the Imran Khan-led Pakistani team which won the World Cup in 1992, beating England in the final, congratulated the former Pakistan cricket team skipper as he is set to become their country’s new Prime Minister.

The 76-year-old Intikhab Alam has known Imran Khan well and followed his career with passion.

Speaking from Lahore, Inti, as he is affectionately called, said, "My heartiest congratulations to Imran Khan. He fully deserves the victory after long struggle of 22 years."

"Now if you think of it, I think he made a right decision to enter into politics. He is a fighter, honest, hard working, determined and visionary person."

Interestingly, Pakistan's then team manager, Alam revealed a fact which many would perhaps not know.

"Throughout the 1992 World Cup, Imran Khan was not even 70 per cent fit because of his shoulder injury. Not many people know this but he played because of his will power, determination and love for the county."

"I know for the fact that he has some very good ideas for domestic cricket and he will do his best to implement them. I have no doubt in my mind that he will do his level best for the resumption of cricket between Pakistan and India," he concluded.
