Mumbai: Struggling Indian wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni was on Friday excluded from the T20 squads for the series against West Indies and Australia.

Dhoni, who retired from Test cricket in 2014, did not have a good tour in England earlier this year, having just managed 111 runs from six matches (three T20Is and three ODIs), with a highest score of 42 runs.

And now, according to a report in The Indian Express, the 37-year-old was ‘dropped’ from the T20 squad to give way to youngsters as the selectors felt that he would anyway be not taking part in the ICC World T20 in 2020.

“The selectors before selection meeting had informed Dhoni through the team management that time has come to move on and give a chance to a younger player in the shortest format. Everyone knows that Dhoni might not carry on till 2020 T20 World Cup. Selectors felt the Indian board should start looking for Dhoni’s replacement from now on,” A BCCI source was quoted saying by The Indian Express.

Dhoni is currently a part of India’s squad in the ongoing ODI series against West Indies as the teams build up towards next year’s ICC Cricket World Cup in England.

The series is tied 1-1 after three games (2nd ODI being tied) with two more matches to be played.
