Mohali: While Sunil Gavaskar has been a fan of Virat Kohli’s batting, he was not too pleased how the Indian Test skipper went about his business after Ben Stokes’ dismissal on day one of the third Test against England in Mohali on Saturday.

The former Indian skipper is not too big a fan of adding some dash of verbal assault after dismissing a batsman and he made everyone know what he felt of Kohli’s send off to the England all-rounder while being on-air.

Gavaskar, who was behind the microphone for BBC Test Match Special, when Parthiv Patel whipped the bails off as Stokes got out off Ravindra Jadeja, minced no words as he criticised Kohli.

“Whatever was said, it really needs to be nipped in the bud,” Gavaskar said as reported by cricket.com.au.

"You have got the batsman out, why do you need to give him a send off? Why say anything? Just congratulate your team-mates and Parthiv Patel for a fine piece of work on his comeback. "But why say anything to the batsman? He’s upset as it is. Then what, rub salt into the wounds?” Gavaskar added.

“It’s the one part of cricket I do not approve of at all,” concluded Gavaskar.

On-field umpire Marais Erasmus had to intervene as Kohli and Stokes refused to budge. Eventually, Stokes was reprimanded by the International Cricket Council.
